An elegant matching pair of Castore table lamps by Artemide, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Huub Ubbens.
One of Artemide's particularly successful exercises in minimalist lighting design, the Castore is defined by its large spherical white diffuser and beautifully tapered stem. Rather than treating the globe, stem and base as separate visual elements, the design creates a flowing transition between them, giving the lamp its distinctive sculptural appearance.
The opaque white spherical diffusers are made from blown glass, producing a soft, evenly diffused light. Each globe sits above a slender white thermoplastic stem on a simple circular base, resulting in a clean monochromatic silhouette. Artemide specifies a zamak base, thermoplastic-resin stem and blown-glass diffuser for the Castore table series.
The lamps are particularly effective as a pair: ideal on bedside tables, either end of a console or sideboard, or as statement lighting in a contemporary living space. Their restrained form also allows them to work comfortably alongside both modern and more traditional furnishings.
The Castore collection was designed by Michele De Lucchi and Huub Ubbens for Artemide, one of Italy's most important international lighting manufacturers.
